(m) stands for masculine form and (f) stands for feminine form:

  • actif (m) – Un enfant actif – An active child (un enfant) in French is masculine that’s why “actif” is in the masculine form.
  • active (f) – Une personne active – An active person (une personne) in French is feminine that’s why “active” is in the feminine form.
